Pedometer
Step Length
For a pedometer to accurately measure the distance it is important to set the step length correctly. Step Length is the distance measured from the heel print of one foot to the heel print of the other foot. For walking the average is 2.2 feet for a woman and 2.5 feet for a man. Your step length changes depending on your activity. Footsteps allows you to set different step lengths for walking and running.
There are different methods of finding the step length. One of them is as follow:
Turn on Footsteps. Walk or run a pre-measured distance. It is best to walk at least a mile/kilometer or so. This will allow to capture your usual pace. On a shorter distance you might be too concern to get the step length right therefore distorting your normal pace.
After you're done divide the pre-measured distance by the number of steps (read it from the first box in Footsteps). Remember to convert the units of measurement accordingly. The calculator below will help you with this.
